you find interesting statements by etcgroup and other organisations which
tried in vain to fight a very broad gene patent, granted by the EPO in
return for very little, if any, innovative achievements. The EPO upheld
the patent by rigidly applying rules which its lobby had obtained from the
European Parliament in 1998. Etcgroup and others warn that more patent
disasters are looming in the field of nanotechnology which, as they
explain, is characterised by modular and incremental innovation.

Some of these groups are co-organising a session in the Europarl on June
11/12 with the Greens/EFA on Nanotechnology and the patent problems as
well as other problems which it is facing.
