At

	http://swpat.ffii.org/conferences/2002/ifri06/

you can find some new material, inter alia an extract from a study ordered by
the Judicial Commission of the European Parliament and my criticism of this
extract.

There seems to be a continuing great temptation for scholars to write studies
which rhetorically blast the patent system but, when it comes to
recommendations, doing everything to conform to the swpat lobby's wishes.

The Paris conference will also be characterised by this climate. Meanwhile
the "swpat are bad so let's legalise'em" approach seems to be finding more and
more friends in academia, in response to a growing market demand from
governments, parliaments etc who need to show that their reluctance to
take political risks is founded on scientific studies.
